Production and Transport

The project is proposed to be developed as an IPP Project, jointly owned by the GoM / GoM-owned entities (like EDM, HCB) and a Strategic Partner (SP) to build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT). Expected PPA term of 30 years, further extendable by 10 years.

Given the relevant role of South Africa in making the undertaking viable, there were contacts between the two Governments of South Africa and Mozambique, with a view to South African participation, through an entity to be designated;

As with the Strategic Partner Selection, the Works Contract (EPC) will be subject to a competitive international tender and Operation and Maintenance will be the responsibility of Hidroeléctrica de Mphanda Nkuwa, with the support of the Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA);

The development plan for the Energy Transmission Project should allow for its completion before the Energy Production Project, with EDM, as System Operator, being the entity responsible for its management and operation.
